At last, the Nigerian Army has set up a high powered Board of Inquiry (BOI) to investigate malpractices and involvement of its personnel in the 2014 gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

This is contained in a statement by Col. Sani Usman, the Ag. Director, Army Public Relations in Abuja.

The statement quoted Usman as saying the BOI was to investigate unprofessional and unethical conduct of some Army personnel in Ekiti and Osun in 2014 gubernatorial elections, among other things.

He stated that the BOI would also investigate cases in other states where allegations of misconduct were made during the 2015 general elections in the country.

He said that "as part of its Terms of Reference, the BOI is also to review the involvement of the Nigerian Army formations/units and its personnel in elections and other duties in aid to civil authority.

"The essence of the investigation is to prevent future unprofessional conduct by officers and men in the performance of constitutional roles. It is also to strengthen Nigerian Army's support to democratic values and structures in Nigeria."
