<br><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 19px; vertical-align: baseline; width: 321px; float: left; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"><div class="more-less" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;"><div class="more-block" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; height: auto; overflow: visible;"><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Abuja – Some senators on Friday restated their confidence in the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, in spite of the disagreement over Rotimi Amaechi's confirmation as minister on Thursday.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">The senators, who are members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that they would also continue to support Saraki as he faced his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">One of them, Gershom Bassey, said that there was no rift between the senators of the PDP and their All Progressives Congress (APC) counterparts in the red chamber, adding that the PDP senators still had confident in Saraki's leadership.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Bassey said that the senators may disagree on issues, but that such disagreements were healthy for legislation.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"We have had two votes of confidence on him and they stand. He has the confidence of the senate and there is absolutely no problem.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"In spite of the disagreement between the APC and PDP senators, nothing has changed. In democracy, people must have different points of view and we must express those points of view.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"The senate is a vibrant senate that has a lot of vibrant debates; the Senate is not a football team that we all have to play in the same direction,'' he said.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">According to him, in the senate, we can play in different directions and still score the goal; I think the more debate there is in the senate, the more vibrant it is.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"We must continue to discus different points of view; it is important that we have different points of view, but that does not mean we are enemies,'' Bassey said.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">He revealed that the major disagreement was not the petition against Amaechi, but the move by APC senators to flout the rules of the senate and confirm the nominee without considering the report on him.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">He said that PDP senators did not see any reason for the rush to confirm Amaechi, adding that PDP would never be part of any move to disobey the rules of the senate in favour of anyone.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">On his part, Sen. George Sekibo (PDP Rivers East) said that PDP members at the upper chamber walked out to protest the refusal of the senate to discuss a committee's report on Amaechi, insisting that they would not go back on the decision.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Sekibo, who submitted the petition against Amaechi to the senate shortly after the former governor was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for ministerial appointment, said that PDP senators had made their position known.<br>According to him, it is now left for Nigerians to know what to do.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">On Saraki's assets declaration trial, he maintained that PDP senators were solidly behind him.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"The Code of Conduct case is against an individual and not APC. We gave him our support in the spirit of esprit de corps.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"As far as senators are concerned, what happened yesterday has passed; we are not working for political parties, but for the entire nation.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"When the time comes to express the wish of your people, you do that and that is what we did yesterday.<br></p></div></div></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; font-size: inherit; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">"We didn't get it, so we let it go so that the country can move forward; we cannot hold the country to ransom," he said.</span></div><div>man*</div>

They had insisted that the senate stick with the recommendation by the Ethics and Privileges committee that looked into all petitions leveled against the former Rivers governor and recommended that his confirmation be suspended due to the various court cases on alleged corrupt practices against him. <br>Gumburawa, a former member of the House of Reps, said on Tuesday at Gumburawa village in Wamakko LGA of Sokoto State that "the change agenda of Buhari would start maturing in the next two years.
<br>
<br>"I am a PDP man, but i voted for Buhari during the last presidential election due to my conviction that he has the Nigerian project topmost in his mind."
<br>
<br>He suppoorted the administration's renewed fight against corruption, and advised the President to ignore unnecessary distractions, especially attacks coming the PDP leadership against his anti-corruption drive.
<br>
<br>Gumburawa, who was also a former board member of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), however, said Buhari should also heed constructive criticisms.
<br>
<br>"He should listen to any constructive criticism aimed at facilitating the reformation of the country. Moral and material corruption have been the bane of Nigeria's socio-economic development.
<br>
<br>"Fighting the monster to a standstill is good for Nigeria, and proactive measures should be taken to bring back all the country's stolen funds stashed outside the country," he said.
<br>
<br>On insecurity, Gumburawa said the government had "so far taken the right steps to combat the menace of insurgency, kidnapping, oil theft and cattle rustling, among other crimes.
<br>
<br>"More efforts should be made to provide the needed arms and ammunition, transportation, incentives and other logistics to the various security agencies in the country, to enable them discharge their mandate effectively."

We must also investigate how those oil blocs were shared and if due process was followed?"</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Continuing he said, "go to UK, almost all the houses on some streets are owned by Northerners who stole Nigeria money, so why are they just on Goodluck Jonathan' men, just to demonized Goodluck.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"Goodluck should have won Nobel Prize for Peace. Goodluck deserves a Nobel Peace prize, Goodluck deserves respect from Nigerians, as far as we are concern the anti-corruption fight is a fight against the Ijaw people."</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">On the crusade against illegal refinery and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta, the IYC President said the use of force alone would not stem menace and urged the federal government to put in place an economic plan as an alternative for the people of the Niger Delta region involved the business so as to discourage them from participating in the illicit trade.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">He said, "we have said in the past that in as much as we support the present administration war against oil theft, it must come with an economic plan as an alternative so that as you are going in to stop them from their way of life, provide an alternative."</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"They say oil theft is economic sabotage, what of the illegal mining that are going on in the North.‎ Is that not worst economic sabotage? At a point there was lead poisoning as a result of illegal mining, and the monies that they realize from illegal mining is huge, why do we not have the JTF policing illegal miners, knowing full well that the monies realize from gold illegally mined is far much more than monies realized from stolen oil.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"Why are we not talking about those minerals in the north that are illegally mined to the pockets of individuals, why is it that only Niger Delta oil that is on the pages of newspapers."</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">The IYC President also expressed worry that the Single Treasury Account system is already having a toil on the economy of the country adding that the Amnesty and the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC are bearing the effects, as according to him, projects are suffering in the region.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Eradiri said the Amnesty Programme is in jeopardy as the activities at the office is going at a snail speed because the Single Treasury Account system is making it difficult for these institutions to carry out their constitutional and statutory functions.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">The IYC however call on the President to exempt the NDDC and the Amnesty office in order for these institutions to freely carry out their responsibilities of training young people from this region as at when due and also developing the Niger Delta.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">'We call on the President to exempt the NDDC from the Single Treasury Account. Our understanding is that institutions that are revenue generating, such as NNPC, NIMASA, NPA should generate the monies and inject them to a purse,not institutions that are set up particularly for special purposes, like the development of the Niger Delta, with the Single Treasury Account System. <br>Frencher stated this while speaking at the second anniversary celebration of the City Light Family, a group within the Bishop White African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
<br>
<br>The Bishop said to minimize the rate of divorce among Christians today, there is need to inculcate further Christian virtues in the families.
<br>
<br>The cleric said, "The only thing that needs to be done to minimise divorce among young Christian couples in Nigeria and elsewhere is to inculcate Christian virtues on families. The issue is that in marriage, you are not looking at the right person; you are trying to become the right person because it is the sacrifice you make towards the family that keeps it going.
<br>
<br>"There is no perfect being but your ability to understand and work with the wisdom of God to keep the family and that is the virtue that should be inculcated in the youths of today, so that divorce rate will be minimal. They (couples) should take marriage seriously and respect it because it is God's holy institution."

<br>Spokesperson for the Army, Col. Sani Usman, said "during the operation which is ongoing, troops discovered and destroyed over 20 well fortified terrorist camps in the general area of Kerenowa".

<br>He said the "tremendous progress" was "in continuation of troops' efforts to defeat Boko Haram.
<br>
<br>The army spokesperson said, "The camps includes some at the gateway to Kerenowa, Gumada and Dogon Gida. In addition, the troops have also discovered that to evade aerial reconnaissance and bombardment, the terrorists have dug twin tunnels to conceal their facilities and routes in and out of the camp. Among facilities discovered were training areas equipped with instructional and training materials that include wooden guns, amongst others.

<br>"The troops have also cleared IED along the road linking Marte, New Marte and Kerenowa. It is apparent that the Boko Haram terrorists lacked the will to fight as they are in obvious disarray, abandoning their camps fleeing and leaving behind vehicles, solar panels used to power devices, food and other logistics, beddings, various IED making devices, cables and cords.

<br>"The advancing troops' morale remains very high and they exude confidence and zeal to destroy all known Boko Haram camps along their axis of advance.
<br>
<br>"We still reiterate our call for citizens to remain confident in the ability of our troops to eliminate all remaining vestiges of the terrorists before the year runs out in line with Presidential directives. Citizens are also requested to kindly provide useful and credible information to the military about any known terrorist or sympathisers."

<br>The fine which is the largest in the history of telecom infringements may redefine the relationships between telecommunications operators and the regulator.

<br>According to Technology Times, NCC fined MTN Nigeria "for allegedly undermining efforts by the Nigerian government to tackle security challenges and the war on terror and allied crimes, as the telecoms operator has allegedly refused to deactivate unregistered mobile phone lines on its network."
<br>
<br>An MTN official who is not authorised to speak on the matter however confirmed to LEADERSHIP that NCC truly issued the fine against the company. The official said "This fine is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria. The amount is even bigger than the entire budget of the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is enough to make the operator close its operations in the country."
<br>
<br>Another top telecom official in the industry also questioned the motive behind this gargantuan fine, saying the highest fine ever fined an operator in the country is N200 million. 
<br>
<br>Last Thursday, MTN Group had announced that its Nigerian operation lost 5.1 million subscriber lines in the month of August to the deactivation of incomplete SIM registrations ordered by NCC. This has led to MTN cutting its full-year forecast for subscriber numbers.
<br>
<br>Nik Kershaw, MTN spokesman confirmed that it is also facing "ongoing regulatory restrictions".

Chris Okotie, has claimed that were it not Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor's "false" prophecy to former President Goodluck Jonathan, he would not have contested the 2015 presidential election.

<br>He said that the former President had initially made up his mind not to vie for the election, but revealed that Oritsejafor "deceived" him with tales of victory as prophesied unto him by God.
<br>
<br>Pastor Oritsejafor is the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
<br>
<br>Okotie, who said this while delivering a sermon in his church on Sunday, said, "Pastor Oritsejafor deceived Jonathan with a false prophecy from God that he (Jonathan) would win the election convincingly."
<br>
<br>He said, "The man (Jonathan) became convinced to contest after Oritsejafor had told him, using CAN's name, that God had ordained him the winner of the 2015 presidential election."
<br>
<br>Okotie noted that some members of CAN and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria at that time knew that Pastor Oritsejafor's prophecy was false, but were scared to speak out.

<br>He said, "They couldn't speak out because they were scared of being insulted. They were scared of being insulted for saying rubbish. They were scared of being insulted on the pages of newspapers. So, while I continued to write and speak that Jonathan was not the man, those of them who knew the truth in what I was saying chose to keep quiet out of fear.
<br>
<br>"I told CAN and PFN that Jonathan was not of God; that whosoever would win would be one that had built a tabernacle in the presence of God.
<br>
<br>"I told CAN and PFN that Jonathan did not belong to the House of David and that since he did not belong to the household, his winning would bring more sorrow to Nigeria."
<br>
<br>Okotie added that President Muhammadu Buhari's victory was an act of God, adding that his emergence was a sign of good things to come.
