Following the departure of Liverpool iconic captain, Steven Gerrard, midfielder Jordan Henderson has been confirmed as the new skipper of the club.

The 25-year-old was stand-in captain on a number of occasions during Gerrard's absence and as expected will continue with the role now that the former Skipper has left.

Henderson joined Liverpool in a £16million move from Sunderland in June 2011 during Kenny Dalglish's time as coach of the The Reds.

Speaking on his new status, Henderson expressed his gratitude at being given the honour and revealed that he wants to follow in the footstep of former captain Gerrard who led the club to many memorable moments.

"I'm absolutely delighted and proud. It is a great honour and a huge privilege to be named as the captain of this footbal Club," Henderson told Liverpool official website.
