<br><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'Droid Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 19px; vertical-align: baseline; width: 321px; float: left; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"><div class="more-less" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;"><div class="more-block" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; vertical-align: baseline; height: auto; overflow: visible;"><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Abuja – Some senators on Friday restated their confidence in the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, in spite of the disagreement over Rotimi Amaechi's confirmation as minister on Thursday.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">The senators, who are members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that they would also continue to support Saraki as he faced his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">One of them, Gershom Bassey, said that there was no rift between the senators of the PDP and their All Progressives Congress (APC) counterparts in the red chamber, adding that the PDP senators still had confident in Saraki's leadership.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Bassey said that the senators may disagree on issues, but that such disagreements were healthy for legislation.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"We have had two votes of confidence on him and they stand. He has the confidence of the senate and there is absolutely no problem.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"In spite of the disagreement between the APC and PDP senators, nothing has changed. In democracy, people must have different points of view and we must express those points of view.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"The senate is a vibrant senate that has a lot of vibrant debates; the Senate is not a football team that we all have to play in the same direction,'' he said.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">According to him, in the senate, we can play in different directions and still score the goal; I think the more debate there is in the senate, the more vibrant it is.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"We must continue to discus different points of view; it is important that we have different points of view, but that does not mean we are enemies,'' Bassey said.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">He revealed that the major disagreement was not the petition against Amaechi, but the move by APC senators to flout the rules of the senate and confirm the nominee without considering the report on him.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">He said that PDP senators did not see any reason for the rush to confirm Amaechi, adding that PDP would never be part of any move to disobey the rules of the senate in favour of anyone.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">On his part, Sen. George Sekibo (PDP Rivers East) said that PDP members at the upper chamber walked out to protest the refusal of the senate to discuss a committee's report on Amaechi, insisting that they would not go back on the decision.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Sekibo, who submitted the petition against Amaechi to the senate shortly after the former governor was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for ministerial appointment, said that PDP senators had made their position known.<br>According to him, it is now left for Nigerians to know what to do.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">On Saraki's assets declaration trial, he maintained that PDP senators were solidly behind him.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"The Code of Conduct case is against an individual and not APC. We must also investigate how those oil blocs were shared and if due process was followed?"</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Continuing he said, "go to UK, almost all the houses on some streets are owned by Northerners who stole Nigeria money, so why are they just on Goodluck Jonathan' men, just to demonized Goodluck.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"Goodluck should have won Nobel Prize for Peace. At a point there was lead poisoning as a result of illegal mining, and the monies that they realize from illegal mining is huge, why do we not have the JTF policing illegal miners, knowing full well that the monies realize from gold illegally mined is far much more than monies realized from stolen oil.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">"Why are we not talking about those minerals in the north that are illegally mined to the pockets of individuals, why is it that only Niger Delta oil that is on the pages of newspapers."</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">The IYC President also expressed worry that the Single Treasury Account system is already having a toil on the economy of the country adding that the Amnesty and the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC are bearing the effects, as according to him, projects are suffering in the region.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">Eradiri said the Amnesty Programme is in jeopardy as the activities at the office is going at a snail speed because the Single Treasury Account system is making it difficult for these institutions to carry out their constitutional and statutory functions.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">The IYC however call on the President to exempt the NDDC and the Amnesty office in order for these institutions to freely carry out their responsibilities of training young people from this region as at when due and also developing the Niger Delta.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 5px; border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: baseline;">'We call on the President to exempt the NDDC from the Single Treasury Account. Our understanding is that institutions that are revenue generating, such as NNPC, NIMASA, NPA should generate the monies and inject them to a purse,not institutions that are set up particularly for special purposes, like the development of the Niger Delta, with the Single Treasury Account System. The issue is that in marriage, you are not looking at the right person; you are trying to become the right person because it is the sacrifice you make towards the family that keeps it going. <br> <br>"There is no perfect being but your ability to understand and work with the wisdom of God to keep the family and that is the virtue that should be inculcated in the youths of today, so that divorce rate will be minimal. They (couples) should take marriage seriously and respect it because it is God's holy institution."

In addition, the troops have also discovered that to evade aerial reconnaissance and bombardment, the terrorists have dug twin tunnels to conceal their facilities and routes in and out of the camp. Among facilities discovered were training areas equipped with instructional and training materials that include wooden guns, amongst others. <br> <br> <br>"The troops have also cleared IED along the road linking Marte, New Marte and Kerenowa. It is apparent that the Boko Haram terrorists lacked the will to fight as they are in obvious disarray, abandoning their camps fleeing and leaving behind vehicles, solar panels used to power devices, food and other logistics, beddings, various IED making devices, cables and cords. <br> <br>"The advancing troops' morale remains very high and they exude confidence and zeal to destroy all known Boko Haram camps along their axis of advance. <br> <br>"We still reiterate our call for citizens to remain confident in the ability of our troops to eliminate all remaining vestiges of the terrorists before the year runs out in line with Presidential directives. The official said "This fine is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria. The amount is even bigger than the entire budget of the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is enough to make the operator close its operations in the country." <br> <br>Another top telecom official in the industry also questioned the motive behind this gargantuan fine, saying the highest fine ever fined an operator in the country is N200 million.  <br> <br>Last Thursday, MTN Group had announced that its Nigerian operation lost 5.1 million subscriber lines in the month of August to the deactivation of incomplete SIM registrations ordered by NCC. Jurgen Klopp admitted "football is not a fairytale"<br>after Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man<br>Southampton in Sunday's Premier League clash<br>at Anfield.<br>Half-time substitute Christian Benteke headed<br>Liverpool ahead with 13 minutes remaining, but<br>Sadio Mane earned the Saints a point with a<br>close-range 86th-minute equaliser before picking<br>up two bookings in injury time.<br>The result was Klopp's third draw in a row since<br>taking over at Anfield following the sacking of<br>Brendan Rodgers, but the former Borussia<br>Dortmund coach says it will take time for him to<br>turn things around on Merseyside.<br>"Of course this moment is not the best moment<br>in the week because we wasted a lot of energy,"<br>he told BBC Sport. "Southampton haven't lost<br>away from home so we had to work hard. You<br>score the goal and you want to win, but it didn't<br>happen tonight.<br>"Football is not a fairytale. SPORT:City and United lacked the strikers to win the Manchester derby

MANCHESTER, England -- The question eventually<br>had to come, and it provoked more tension than<br>the majority of a largely dull 0-0 Manchester<br>derby. Louis van Gaal was asked about Wayne<br>Rooney. He wasn't happy about it.<br>"Sir, I have to talk every week about Rooney," the<br>Manchester United manager so formally<br>responded before posing a question himself.<br>"Why?"<br>There's a rather obvious reason why, even if the<br>United manager seems to be one of the few who<br>can't see it. Rooney is a £300,000-a-week striker<br>and has recently been lauded as one of the finest<br>players in the history of club and country due to<br>his goal records, but, despite notionally hitting his<br>prime at the age of 30, he isn't living up to any of<br>that. He again looked so badly off the pace, and<br>that in itself raises questions about the ongoing<br>arms race between these two clubs.<br>Much was made before this game of the collective<br>cost of the starting XI, with that estimated at well<br>over £500 million. It's all the more remarkable,<br>then, what both teams are reduced to doing with<br>the most prized position of all: the No. 9. United<br>persist with a player who, at best, needs more<br>rest; at worst, may well be past it. City meanwhile<br>must tactically improvise without Sergio Aguero<br>and attempt to accommodate an option in<br>Wilfried Bony, who is useful but probably not<br>good enough to be starting regularly for such a<br>team.<br>In the end, one of the most relevant numbers to<br>do with this match was not the money spent, it<br>was the amount of passes wasted by the two<br>primary strikers. According to<br>WhoScored research, both Rooney and Bony had<br>possession rates of 55 percent.<br>These were by far the lowest on the pitch and<br>were a large part of why we didn't see a shot on<br>target until the 82nd minute, why Manuel<br>Pellegrini admitted he had to go more defensive<br>because his team couldn't keep the ball and why<br>this game ended goalless. Both teams just looked<br>toothless.<br>For all that, there was a flicker -- and a significant<br>reminder -- of something else in the 70th minute.<br>That was the moment when the effervescent,<br>young Jesse Lingard fed Rooney into the area<br>with an angled ball. It was the type of play that<br>used to be perfect for Rooney, and it was hard<br>not to imagine his 2009-10 self immediately<br>wrapping himself around the ball and whacking a<br>high, first-time shot that at the very least tested<br>Joe Hart.<br>The eventual action did not recall 2009-10,<br>though. It instead reminded everyone that<br>Rooney had just turned 30 on Saturday. Rather<br>than even get a shot off, the England captain<br>strained to just stop the ball going out of play<br>before playing a feeble pass across the area.<br>It was just so meek and tentative, and it was<br>remarkable to think that this was the player who<br>first made his name on breaking through at 16<br>precisely because of his physical power. He was<br>then explosive.<br>He's now a damp squib.<br>There are two deeper questions out of this. The<br>first is how it got to this, to a player who now<br>looks so laboured and limp.<br>It is possible that this is all an inevitable<br>consequence of the fact he did first break<br>through at 16, considering he has played so<br>much since such a young age. The exact same<br>has happened to similar power- or pace-based<br>players who started early like Michael Owen and<br>Fernando Torres. Ryan Giggs is an exception to<br>that, but that's because he so conspicuously<br>changed his game to something more measured.<br>Rooney has not yet changed his game, other than<br>becoming so much more ineffective.<br>The second question is how he keeps getting so<br>much football, despite his only goals in the league<br>this season coming after United had already<br>scored in two separate 3-0 wins, against<br>Sunderland and then Everton.<br>It is all the more surprising because the excellent<br>Anthony Martial offers such an obvious<br>replacement at No. 9. He offers all the spark that<br>Rooney used to, so thrillingly running between<br>the lines and then filling the rest with flashes of<br>brilliance like the lofted ball from which Lingard<br>hit the crossbar late on. Here, it seemed so clear<br>that Martial should go up front with Memphis<br>Depay, then taking the Frenchman's place on the<br>wing.<br>It never happened, although Rooney was left on<br>to offer his best moment of the match. That<br>typically came in his own area rather than the<br>opposition's, as he headed away a late corner.<br>It still lead to more questions.<br>"I don't give any more answers about Wayne<br>Rooney," Van Gaal responded. "I am sick of<br>them."<br>Those questions are going to come if the goals<br>don't.<br>There should be questions in this regard for City,<br>too, though. Bony is a good player and a useful<br>tactical alternative to be able to deploy, but there<br>is a huge chasm between his quality and that of<br>Aguero.<br>It's somewhat inevitable that any team is going to<br>be someway dependable on a player as good as<br>the Argentine if they have him, but for a team<br>willing to spend the money, it just seems so odd<br>that City don't have a superior alternative. Given<br>the inevitability that Aguero will spend a certain<br>amount of time out injured every season, too, it<br>seems poor planning to only have Bony, a striker<br>who probably needs another striker running off<br>him.<br>As such, Pellegrini was forced to improvise<br>Sunday, trying to get Kevin De Bruyne and<br>Raheem Sterling offering pace on either side of<br>the Ivorian. It didn't work and instead stunted<br>their recent good form. Sterling was barely in the<br>game, offering only one deflected shot and an<br>entanglement with Ander Herrera that might<br>have brought a penalty. De Bruyne just kept<br>giving the ball away.<br>It all meant City had to give territory and<br>possession away, too. Sadly, the tradition is fast fading out and this is due to several reasons.<p>Kunle Idowu, a 54-year old business man who is an Abeokuta resident has always been asked jokingly by friends if he was attacked by a tiger or a lion. This is because his handsome face bears the tribal marks known as 'Abaja Owu'; three bold horizontal marks atop three equally visible vertical ones on each cheek.<br>According to Idowu, "I cannot subject my children to the embarrassment I suffered over the marks I have on my face. During my school days, they called me all sorts of names because of the bold tribal marks my grandparents put on my face. I have been rejected by ladies severally due to the marks on my face."<p>Nowadays, tribal marks have become dying mementos of an ancient era. Some of the young people who have it feel resentment towards their parents for giving them such scars.<p>Across the major and minor tribes in Nigeria, tribal marks have been a way of identification. Ethnic groups such as the Yoruba, Hausa, Kanuri, Nupe, Jarawa in Plateau and Igala are known to have some of the marks. Such marks reveal instantly, the tribe of anybody who bears them.<p>Giving reasons why tribal marks are predominantly used in some parts of Nigeria, an expert in History and Philosophy, Dr Babalola Adeyinka who spoke to LEADERSHIP said, "Tribal marks came into Nigeria during the colonial era when the colonial masters were capturing people and taking them to foreign countries for slavery, people started giving their family members marks to locate them if ever they were captured and to recognise them when they are freed. These permanent marks are ways of identification passed on from family to family, members of the same village, identification of royal lineage and people from the same lineage.<p>"It was also used during the period of inter-tribal wars. It was a simple means of knowing where someone came from; that is to identify their towns of origin and families. People believe that a person with tribal marks will not remain missing for too long. Such a person, if separated from his relations during war or other conflicts, would meet someone who would identify his town and even his family through this marks. Such wars have ceased, making tribal marks is a thing of the past," Adeyinka explained.<p>Continuing, he said some people also give these marks for protection against certain diseases. "The marks were not only given on the face, but also on the chest, back, stomach, thigh or arm. For instance, in Akoko-Edo area of Edo State, the three-quarter-inch vertical mark on each cheek is an inoculation against convulsion, which is mandatory for babies. Since most childhood killer diseases now have vaccines, herbal or local inoculations that resemble facial marks are fast going out of fashion. In recent times, it is very difficult to find tribal marks on people who are younger than 35 years in Nigeria. The culture may remain a while with traditional institutions, but this also will disappear with time," Adeyinka noted.<p>Corroborating Adeyinka, An octogenarian, Alhaji Bolaji Adekunle, who also spoke to LEADERSHIP, noted that tribal marks were used as a source of identification in the olden days.<p>"People who were migrating to other places had these marks given to them as a mark of identification so that whosoever came in contact with them would know instantly where they were coming from. For instance, there are tribal marks that tell you instantly that someone is an Egba man, an Ilaje person or an Ijesha man. In my days, they are considered beautiful. I am a first son and I was given these beautiful marks at birth. Ironically, things have changed. None of my children or grandchildren have any tribal marks. That tradition is fading out now."<p>It is interesting to note that tribal marks are not limited to Nigeria, but to other countries as well. For instance, the Nuer of Sudan give tribal marks as a mark of transition from childhood to boyhood; hence, it is meant only for boys from age 15 and above. It is a ritual deserving a lot of courage as the traditional healer usually cuts each of the six vertical marks so deep that the cheek bones are often exposed!<p>After the marks heal, the Nuer boy becomes a responsible and respected man in his community. He can then marry and settle down to adult life.<p>Going down memory lane, it could be recalled that from the First Republic to the present day, Nigeria has had several leaders who wore their tribal marks like garments of honour. Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Ladoke Akintola , Chief Lamidi Adedibu, General Sani Abacha, Chief Richard Akinjide, Olusegun Obasanjo amongst others wore distinct tribal marks that stood them out in the days they held sway.<p>Although these marks have a long history of tradition and culture, some Nigerians believe the practice of tribal marks should be stopped, because they are old-fashioned.<p>A medical doctor, Godwin Atabo, wonders why anybody should still be interested in tribal marks in spite of the deadly infections, including hepatitis and HIV, which can be transmitted in the process. Atabo advises that since the process, unlike male circumcision, cannot be done in hospitals with properly sterilised equipment, it should be discouraged.<p>Some Nigerian states have enacted laws to ban giving children tribal marks and imposing heavy fines on violators or prison terms.<p>For instance, Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, made facial marks and tattoos illegal in the state in 2006 in line with its Child Rights Law. He remained there, lying in the road with a red bandana around his neck, long after her body had been removed. <br> <br>Sources say Kelly's family had to struggle to take the dog home. She and her dog were inseparable. <br> <br>The operator of the semi-truck was pulling out of the gas station when he "mistakenly" struck Kelly and he was said to have dragged her more than 30 feet before stopping. <br> <br>But the trucker driver may not have known he hit someone, said the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. <br> <br>But Kelly's father disagrees. He said, "I don't see how someone could hit her here and drag her all the way out to Beaver Street and not have known it. I just don't know how I'm going to tell her mamma."

<p class="mobile-photo"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiANx_YdQFjJl55gz6WD14vNrFGYyPN0-KqdNG5wmPL7sGk_9kbtVE7_Rb77jmU29YpzWv5-6_NiZCQ8DSwVJqQTry7IrIaBLS61B9b9pV84H-qSRyraZSjoo3W1LjxhjhHnOcIPeiKhVY1/s1600/%253D%253Futf-8%253FB%253FVlArT3NpbmJham8rMS5qcGc%253D%253F%253D-714756"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_6209229562420340578" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiANx_YdQFjJl55gz6WD14vNrFGYyPN0-KqdNG5wmPL7sGk_9kbtVE7_Rb77jmU29YpzWv5-6_NiZCQ8DSwVJqQTry7IrIaBLS61B9b9pV84H-qSRyraZSjoo3W1LjxhjhHnOcIPeiKhVY1/s320/%253D%253Futf-8%253FB%253FVlArT3NpbmJham8rMS5qcGc%253D%253F%253D-714756" /></a></p>*Police begins manhunt for the key mastermind<br>Policemen attached to the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) Ikeja are investigating an alleged theft of N8million from Vice Pres ident Yemi Osibajo's bank account.<p>It was gathered that two undergraduate students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka identi fied as Ebuka Orumba and Patrick Nwafor allegedly hacked into his account and stole N8million.<p>The account is of Simmons Cooper Partner, a law firm said to belong to Vice President Osibajo.<p>It has been discovered that the Nwafor is a final year 500Level student of Environmental Science while Orumba is a final year student of Computer Engineering.<p>It was gathered that the students used fraudulent means to hack into the email of the Account manager of the VP's law firm, one Mr. Tunde Irukera, and they allegedly sent a mail to UBA PLC branch to one Obuba Fidelia on July 2nd instructing the bank to transfer eight mil lion naira from Simmions Cooper Bank account to three different bank ac counts they opened for the fraud.<p>It was further gathered that the undergraduates allegedly connived with a tricycle rider one Artor Kalu to open a bank ac count with Zenith bank ac count number 2086943174 where three million naira (N3,000,000) was trans ferred to with the false name Engineer Asukwo Okoro.<p>The remaining amounts were said to have been transferred to two other unnamed bank accounts.<p>But luck ran out on the undergraduates when their gang member, Mr. Kalu went to the Zenith bank account at Mushin to withdraw the N3m but was nabbed by detectives from SARS following a tip off from the bank.<p>The police immediately arrested Kalu, fol­lowing his statement they arrested Orumba but Nwafor escaped.<p>Following investiga tion, the police discovered that Kalu with the help of others got a fake Driver's license which he used to open the Zenith Bank ac count.<p>The police has since charged Orumba and Kalu to court on a 5 count charge on conspiracy, stealing and fraud while efforts is on to arrest Nwafor whom the others claimed to be the master mind of the fraud.
