Sahara Reporters first broke the news that Audu passed away of undisclosed medical reason just after the  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced the results of the voting and had declared the election inconclusive.

Naij.com  correspondents rushed to Audu's house in Lokoja to confirm the authenticity of the report. He was previously said to have left his country home in Ofu LG for Lokoja, the state capital. The phones of his aides were switched off.

There was also anxiety in social media, as some claimed that Audu is safe and alive saying that the information about his death was simply a rumour. See one of the Facebook posts (which, however, was deleted shortly after the publication):

Upon arrival, Naij.com exclusively reported that Audu's house in Lokoja was deserted. Sources around the mansion said the APC candidate had never shown up in his Lokoja house as previously reported.

Meanwhile, famous publisher Dele Momodu posted a shocking tweet:

Audu's close friend who pleaded for anonymity also confirmed the information to Premium Times: "Audu is gone."

The source added the politician was suddenly took ill and was was being rushed to Abuja preparatory to be flown abroad for treatment. However, his life could not be saved. Sahara Reporters adds that the burial date is already known, which is November 23.

The official confirmation has been finally provided.

R.I.P.

One of the locals, Dominic Babadamina, told Naij.com that a prominent prophet in the state had predicted that Audu would not govern Kogi again. The resident, however, refused to provide the cleric's name.

It should be noted that according to the results as counted by the INEC in the evening of November 22, the APC polled 240,867, while the PDP received 199,514.

However, the election was declared inconclusive as the leading margin was below the number of registered voters in cancelled polling units.
