Some Young Persons in Cross River who are card-carrying members of the People's Democratic Party have resolved to cast their votes for the ruling All Progressives Congress should the party pick a young person as running mate to Sen. Bassey Otu. TDN can authoritatively report.
This was contained in a message by Comrade Daniel Obo when he led a delegation of young persons in Cross River State to pay a courtesy call on the Director-General of the Cross River State Transport Monitoring and Regulatory Agency (TRAMRA), Mr Godwin Nyiam, Tuesday in Calabar.
Obo who is a card-carrying member of the People's Democratic Party was accompanied by Engr. Joel Henshaw another card-carrying member of the PDP who recently contested the primary byelection of Akpabuyo into the Cross River State House of Assembly and several young persons across party divide, said they would however not mind casting their votes for the APC should Godwin Nyiam be chosen as a running mate to Prince Otu.
Speaking further, Obo extolled the sterling qualities of Nyiam which he said have endeared him to many young persons, stating that he and his fellows had to carry out an assessment before agreeing on making Comrade Godwin Nyiam their ambassador.
"As a young man, if they put you on the ballot before 12am the result will start coming out. Write everything I have told you here on a piece of paper and keep, and you will see it in 2023. The people are getting wiser by the day." Obo assured the DG.
The Obubra born politician, committed to supporting the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade in his resolve to handover power to the South stating that he believes in the rotational politics of Cross River State and will support the south to get their turn but if the South allow it slide the central will contest again, after 8 years.
Obo went on to advise young persons to take their destinies in their hands and not rely on political parties, emphasising that APC and PDP are not parties for young people.
His words:
"I have always said it to those who care to listen that these two political parties, APC and PDP are not parties for our generation. Any young man who goes there and wants to get ticket it is not as easy as you think because the mechanisms of those parties are not part of your generation. So even if you spend N10billion the reality is that the mechanism that gives ticket cannot favour you because those who will sit down to discuss the ticket are not your friends by age and relationship.
"The only thing we have to do is to be sure we begin to create our pathway and on time. If they have taken it as elderly people, we deserve a young deputy governor also. And if it's going to our area, just like my secretary said, I'm sure there will be nothing wrong if they give it to you. I am a member of the PDP. I am not a member of APC. And as at today, my party is anti youth and they'll hear from us. We want to assure you that if your party finds you fit to be on the ballot with Senator Prince Otu we will not have any choice than to say okay our own is there let's support and rally behind you.
In his response, the Ogoja born grassroots politician with large following, Mr Godwin Nyiam thanked the delegation of young persons for finding him worthy to be their ambassador while appreciating "the true spirit of patriotism that has long ago became non resident in our consciences have been reactivated."
"Collectively we'll be able, in the nearest future, to liberate our own selves from the shackles of political and economic backwardness. But we must note with action that power is not given, as young people we must take power", he added.
Nyiam pointed out that Governor Ben Ayade is a leader who is passionate about seeing youth assume leadership positions and has done everything humanly possible to carry them along in the last seven years.
He, therefore, expressed optimism that with the enormous goodwill continually demonstrated towards youths, Prof. Ayade will definitely leave behind something worthwhile they will always look back at and smile.
Recall that Godwin Nyiam had in 2019 indicated interest to contest the Northern District Senatorial race, but had to step down for the late Sen. Rose Oko, he also stepped out last year to contest the party's chairmanship, but also had to bow out for Barr Alphonsus Eba who currently sits at the helms of affairs of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
