The Independence Day celebration is synonymous with a struggle triggered by our great nationalists to foster and strengthen our sovereignty as an indivisible entity.
The long walk to independence was associated with toils, unalloyed display of patriotism, unity in diversity despite challenges that threatened our existence. We have had our fair share of challenges as a nation, but we will overcome.
The civil war remains a dark spot in our history, but never again will we allow tribal sentiments, religious bigotry and political indifferences put a knife to our bond as a Nation. The spirit of oneness must be embraced both home and in the diaspora, from North, West, East and South we will all strive to keep Nigeria as one.
As we celebrate another milestone as a Nation, I implore Nigerians to embrace unity, togetherness, religious tolerance etc as this is the only country we can call home; our motherland, our heritage.
