Barely a month after she was sacked by an Appeal Court
sitting in Enugu as senator representing Anambra
Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly,
Uche Ekwunife has dumped the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that
Ekwunife who has begun preparation for a fresh poll
after her election was nullified last month, confirmed
her defection from the PDP to newsmen in Awka,
  Anambra state capital.
She said: "It's better now for me to join the APC.
"Let the heat be there; I am already on campaigns for
my return to the senate, to complete my contract with
the people of Anambra Central District.
She added that her goodies for her people under the
APC would soon be made public.
With this development, Ekwunife may now likely replace Chris Ngige as the APC flagbearer in the March 2016 fresh election after the latter withdrew his candidacy
following his appointment as minister of Labour and
  Productivity.
It is believed that the APC in Anambra state are presently shopping for a candidate that will fly the flag of the party and could likely look in the direction of Ekwunife.
Hon. Ekwunife had polled 101548 votes to outsmart
her closest rival and Chief Victor Umeh, the national
chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA),
who garnered 77129 votes, even as Sen. Ngige of APC
got only 20850 votes in the March 28 2015 election.
Announcing the result, Dr. Pius Okoye, the INEC returning officer attested that the poll was free, fair
  and credible.
However, an appeal sitting in Enugu on December 6,
2015, nullified the election of Uche Ekwunife, as the
Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District in the Red Chamber of the NationalAssembly, following an appeal filed by Chief Victor Umeh of APGA.
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in the zone within 90 days.
